#895 - Statement Necklace with Double Triangle Dichroic Glass
A true statement piece! Two opposing triangles of bright coloured dichroic glass form the middle of this pendant. They sit on top of a 'superman' shaped copper piece. the copper plate has been distressed and the glass adhered to it. Then the entire piece is electroformed to create a solid copper layer over select areas. the cope is finished with a black patina and raised areas polished to bring up the copper from below. All pieces are finished with an acrylic spray to protect both the skin and the copper colour.
This electroformed glass necklace is suspended from a 24" inch copper plated chain finished with lobster clasp. The pendant is three inches wide and about two and a half inches tall.
I begin the process by layering multiple pieces of dichroic glass and melting it down into one large slab. I then cut the slab down into individual cabochons that I either melt further, cold-work or finish with the electroforming process.
The electroforming process can take anywhere from 12-48 hours, depending on the size and detail of the piece. Each piece is given a turquoise/brown/black patina, then carefully polished in certain areas to bring out the copper below. Finally each piece is sealed with wax or lacquer to preserve and protect the finish.
