#149 - Fused glass and Feather charm necklace, western style cowgirl glass jewelry (small)
Layering many pieces of dichroic glass and melting it into a large slab is the start of creating this unique glass necklace. I then cut the slab down into individual necklace cabochons and place them into a diamond shaped silver toned bezel. The technique ensures no two pieces are the same, giving you a completely unique necklace.
The square of glass measures 0.5 inches with the silver bezel just a little bigger (0.75 at it widest point - wide part of the diamond shape). The silver feather is 1.75 inches long. The entire pendant from top of the bail to the bottom of the feather is 2 inches. A random length sterling silver plated snake chain is included in your order.
Please note that pictures may have darker or lighter colours on different monitors and are usually darker than portrayed in these pictures. Colours are always more vibrant in person with Dichroic glass.
All of my glass art is created in my Calgary based studio. It is properly fused and annealed in an electric kiln to ensure longevity. Each piece is individually crafted, fused and shaped which often takes three fusing cycles (and several days) to complete.
What is Dichroic [dahy-kroh-ik] Glass? When you look at this glass, it appears to have more than one colour at the same time, especially when viewed at different angles. This reflective phenomenon is known as thin-film physics, which is also why you see swirling rainbow patterns in a soap bubble, floating colours from oil on water and the dramatic colours of dragonfly wings.
